Trump Applies Chaos Theory to Immigration

While mathematics introduced us to the Chaos Theory, Trump did the same but in politics.

I know Trump supporters like to buy into this theory which defies all logic and rational thinking, but, my answer is always the same; be consistent. Next time you are in the hospital surgery room, do you want chaos or order?

Family Reunification

Tuesday, top government officials testified before a Senate committee and they were clear; they learned of Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy when you did. Think about that. Let that sink in.

A major policy change that will not only result in chaos, but major backlash, controversy and lawsuits and as a top immigration official, you found out the same day I did when I tuned into CNN and saw Jeff Sessions announce the “zero tolerance policy.”

More than six hundred children have yet to be reunited with their parents. Now, let’s put that into perspective. Remember being separated from your parents for a brief moment in time when you were maybe five years old? Maybe you got lost at a mall or had a baby sitter? Was it fun or terrifying?

“It’s hard to imagine, isn’t it? The United States of America says, ‘We’re going to start separating kids forcibly from their parents. We’re not going to set up a system of tracking those kids so we can find them or match them back up with their parents. We’re just going to separate them.’” Sen. Richard Durbin, D.-Ill.

I posted before on social media this could have been resolved easily in five minutes. I’ve represented hundreds of clients in paternity hearings. When paternity is at issue, a simple swab of the mouth determines whether my client is the father or not.

The Trump administration could have created a DNA database in order to reunite the children with their families. But, that was done after the fact and the reason behind that is clear- they wanted to send a message to immigrants that these were the consequences, especially with prosecution of immigrants crossing the border. Forget the fact that it is costlier to have a criminal prosecution than to just deport them. That’s a lot of time, money, and resources to spend for a first-time offense which is categorized as a misdemeanor. By the way, would you rather face death by gang members and drug dealers, or be convicted of a misdemeanor?

It should also be noted that Trump’s administration was warned of the effects psychologically if children were separated from their parents.

“There’s no question that separation of children from parents entails significant potential for traumatic psychological injury to the child.” Commander Jonathan White of the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

The “Zero Tolerance Policy” is what it is. It lacks legal and rational logic. It was signed by Executive Order and it is nothing more than barbaric policy to satisfy Trump’s base that is happy to go bankrupt as long as they get their wall. Welcome to “cut your nose off to spite your face” politics.
