Boy Scouts of America Filing Bankruptcy

The Boy Scouts of America has filed for bankruptcy due to an endless amount of lawsuits alleging sexual molestation.

The bankruptcy petition listed the Boy Scouts’ assets as between $1 billion and $10 billion, and its liabilities at $500 million to $1 billion.

At issue will be confidential files kept since the 1920s that lists victims and abusers. A deposition revealed the files contain 7,819 suspected abusers and 12,254 victims and even worse, the Boy Scouts allowed suspected abusers to continue to their posts.

The scandal is reminiscent of the Roman Catholic Diocese filing for bankruptcy.

Because of the size of the Boy Scouts organization with a presence in fifty states, this will be one of the most complex and litigated bankruptcies ever.
