Christine Blasey Ford Replies to Senator Chuck Grassley
Senator Chuck Grassley of the Senate Judiciary Committee gave Christine Blasey Ford a deadline of Friday to decide whether she was going to testify or not at a voluntary hearing for Monday. No other witnesses would be allowed even though Ford said that Mark Judge was present and helped her escape the room that Brett Kavanaugh locked her in.
It goes without saying that if Ford doesn’t appear on Monday, case closed and Kavanaugh becomes the next Supreme Court Justice, but not so fast.
Ford since coming out publicly, has been receiving death threats and has moved out of her home with her family to a secret location. You see why victims don’t like to come out in general especially in high profile cases? You have to be one twisted #### to randomly started issuing death threats to a stranger on a matter you know nothing about.
Through her attorney Debra Katz, they issued a statement that Ford “wishes to testify, provided that we can agree on terms that are fair and which ensure her safety. Dr. Ford has asked me to let you know that she appreciates the various options you have suggested. Her strong preference continues to be for the Senate Judiciary Committee to allow for a full investigation prior to her testimony.”
Again, I’ll ask the question I’ve posed over and over again. After almost two years with only eight Justices on the bench, what’s the hurry all of a sudden? Party over country!
Grassley could do the right thing and just wait and he’s definitely been backed into a corner. What is he going to do? Move forward and not care that Ford’s life and that of her family’s has been endangered.
Ford’s request is completely reasonable given the circumstances, but the hypocrisy of it all is that everyone is yelling Democrats are using stall tactics, but they keep forgetting why we only have eight justices on the bench to begin with.
But, the Republicans are afraid to gamble. If the FBI investigation reveals nothing, then this is over. Republicans can claim a victory on multiple fronts. The problem: the mid-terms are around the corner and the Republicans have a legitimate fear in the Democrats taking over.
If the investigation reveals Kavanaugh did in fact commit sexual assault, well, considering President Trump’s history with women, sexual assaults and hush money, it’s political suicide for a long list of Republicans.
