Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has again blocked a move by Senate Democrats to vote on ending the government shutdown.
McConnell has made clear numerous times that he won’t take up any legislation that doesn’t provide the $5 billion for the wall and that President Donald Trump won’t sign.
Senator McConnell seems to forget the fact that he doesn’t work for the President.
If McConnell seriously wanted this to be a democratic process, he would let all the bills reach the floor and let the Congress decide as it may. Instead, McConnell has taken it up himself to block everything. It’s no wonder he has been out of the spotlight as of late.
“The last thing we need to do right now is trade pointless — absolutely pointless — show votes back and forth across the aisle,” McConnell said on the floor. “The political stunts are not going to get us anywhere.”
McConnell meet kettle…
It was only two days ago that I wrote about the Senate submitting a bill to protect the investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller, even supported by Senator Lindsey Graham, but it’s likely that McConnell will block that bill too, as he has blocked similar bills before.
Does President Trump own the government shutdown? Yes, he does, but McConnell has been complicit each step of the way.
