According to People.com, Vanessa Trump is getting divorced from Don, Jr. after more than twelve years together.
“After 12 years of marriage, we have decided to go our separate ways. We will always have tremendous respect for each other and our families. We have five beautiful children together and they remain our top priority. We ask for your privacy during this time.”
Yesterday, Vanessa Trump filed for divorce in Manhattan Supreme Court, according to court records. The day before, Special Counsel Robert Mueller subpoenaed documents pertaining to the Trump organization.
Vanessa may be protecting herself legally from Mueller. For example, worst case scenario, what if there are criminal issues such as money laundering?
Assets will be frozen and a divorce settlement now almost guarantees that Vanessa won’t have to deal with the financial side of this if that is where the investigation is heading.
The federal government always puts pressure on the family, threatening to take away all their assets and freeze bank accounts, leaving a family with nothing, scrambling to make ends meet even though a few weeks ago they were billionaires.
Think of Bernie Madoff who had to negotiate with the feds to leave his wife, Ruth with $2 million and in return, he would plead guilty and cooperate fully.
Vanessa and Don, Jr. share five children together and she has to worry about their future. Even more so, it’s almost guaranteed that if the investigation continues, inquiries will extend to family members which almost always includes the wives, a common tactic employed by the government.
One simple technique when it comes to money laundering is the spouse signed the tax returns and since the tax returns are fraudulent, then the spouse faces criminal liability as well.
Of course, there is a counter to that known as “innocent spouse” relief, but who wants to go through that?
Now, it has been reported that marital issues existed before, but surely living in the public eye under intense scrutiny only added fuel to the fire.
Unfortunately, Vanessa Trump has been the victim of that when she received an envelope with an unknown powdery substance inside that turned out to be cornmeal.
But, I find it hard to believe that the possible legal consequences doesn’t factor in.
As an attorney, I would have advised Vanessa to get divorced now to protect herself, children, and assets. If nothing comes out of the Mueller investigation, then remarry Don, Jr. since like I’ve told clients before, there is no law against remarrying an ex-spouse.
It is now being reported according to multiple news sources that Don, Jr. had an affair with former contestant on Celebrity Apprentice, Aubrey O’Day.
It is even being rumored now that O’day wrote a song that she never published titled DJT.
