Google, YouTube Fake Accounts Shut Down
A couple of days ago I wrote a post about Facebook shutting down hundreds of fake pages and Instagram accounts as well.
The subject of social media and election meddling is a topic I continue to write about because of the dangers it presents to our democracy, especially with the mid-term elections around the corner.
Now, Google has done the same by banning eighty plus YouTube channels.
The YouTube channels connected to Russia (forty-two accounts) and Iran, were spreading misinformation in the United States.
The good news is the sites had minimal views. The forty-two Russian channels had 1,800 views, and the Iran/IRIB-linked channels had 13,466 views. IRIB stands for the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB).
Earlier this week, Microsoft also stopped and shut down fake internet sites.
