Governor Andrew Cuomo to NRA – See You in Court

Man, I wish Governor Andrew Cuomo was the governor of Florida. He’s having the time of his life playing with the NRA (National Rifle Association).

Governor Cuomo is being sued by the NRA as the pro-gun group states that due to Cuomo’s actions in not only fighting against Carry Guard Insurance and getting rid of it in the state of New York, but also for urging other Governors to do the same.

The NRA thinking they are cute, like to troll people. They did it with David Hogg the activist and survivor of the Parkland Shootings. Hogg got the best of them with his response. But now, they are doing the same to Cuomo who once again, has one upped the NRA.

Governor Cuomo received a Candidate Questionnaire from the NRA. His response classic response is below.

Dear NRA:

I received your 2018 NY Candidate Questionnaire. I imagine it was sent to me in error or as some twisted joke.

In case you forgot, this year, last year, the year before, and the year before that – I received an F rating from the NRA. I’ll take my F rating again this year and wear it with pride.

And while I will not be vying for your endorsement, I am happy to share some thoughts on the positions stated throughout your questionnaire:

  • The survey asks if I support repealing the SAFE Act. Let me be clear: One of my proudest moments as governor was authoring and then signing the SAFE Act into law. This act requires background checks for all private gun purchases and closes the “gun show loophole.” This is something that over 90% of Americans can agree on because it’s common sense. How many more deaths of innocent children, mothers, fathers, and families must there be before Trump and the NRA DO SOMETHING! We did something and as a result, New York has the third lowest gun deaths per year per capita. The SAFE Act was enacted five years ago and has done absolutely nothing to infringe on lawful gun owners’ rights – so the scare tactics didn’t bare out.

  • Question five asks if I would support conceal and carry in our state’s many beautiful parks. What a sick concept. No, we’re not going to weaponize our places for quiet enjoyment and recreation for millions of children and families.

  • Question 14 asks if I support preventing individuals on the terrorist watch list from buying guns. Three years ago, I stood with Senator Schumer and called on the federal government to close the terror gap. This requires federal action. Not surprisingly, I’m still waiting. As your organization continues to block common-sense measures like this, people are dying.

  • Question 17 asks if I am in favor of removing guns from domestic abusers. A better question would be, who doesn’t support taking guns from domestic abusers? This year, we passed new legislation ensuring that domestic abusers are prohibited from possessing both hand guns and long guns. We closed a loophole to be certain that a domestic abuser is required to surrender ALL guns. Take a moment and see the absurdity: You support arming domestic abusers and fight the disarming of terrorists. This is repugnant to commonsense and our values.

And while you didn’t ask, let me tell you: This year we also spearheaded the creation of the ‘States for Gun Safety’ coalition to combat the gun violence epidemic. We continue to fight to pass the Red Flag Gun Protection Bill, preventing people who are determined by a court to have the potential to cause harm to themselves or others from buying or possessing any kind of firearm including rifles, shotguns and hand guns.

Now I give that an A rating.

While you have spent years bullying politicians from the White House to dog catcher, I am not afraid of you.

So as my final response (you said use a separate sheet of paper for additional comments) I would add New York is leading the way to hold you accountable by blocking the illegal sale of Carry Guard insurance. And I am calling on other states to stand up, follow our lead and do the same.

So, in conclusion, I take an F and give you one right back. Feel free to shop your ‘endorsement’ elsewhere.

And, by the way, I’ll see you in court.
