For months, Elijah Cummings who chairs the House Oversight Committee, has been requesting documents from the White House in reference to security clearances. The White House has never complied with that request.
Now with the flurry of letters and document requests from House Democrats, topping that list is President Donald Trump’s senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner. What did the White House do with that request? Nothing!
By failing to comply, a subpoena would be the next step to obtain the documentation. It may be what the Trump administration wants in order to tie it up in the courts, but regardless it begs the question why isn’t Trump’s administration complying?
Hasn’t Rudy Giuliani and President Trump said endless of times they want all this to end? Wouldn’t the quickest way for this to end be by providing the documents? Then Trump can turn around and say “see, I told you there was nothing there. It was a witch hunt all along!”
But, Trump has no interest in cooperating and the reason why is obvious. Regardless, I guarantee you that if this request went through the court system, Trump would lose on this as well.
White House counsel Pat Cipollone did reply that Cummings’ request is “radically intrusive,” but I refer Cipollone to the endless amount of documentation requested from President Clinton’s administration for his affair with Monica Lewinsky.
Now give that thought for a second and compare the investigation of President Trump to that of President Clinton to see the hypocrisy.
The response from Cipollone can be seen below.
