Ignorance of the law is no excuse. – Oliver Wendell Holmes

Michael Cohen, former personal attorney for President Trump and now official thorn in Trump’s side, dropped two political bombs in less than forty-eight hours.

First, it was the secretly recorded conversation between him and Trump regarding the payoff to Karen McDougal. Trump, who denied knowing about the payments, has now been caught with his pants down twice when it comes to paying women hush money. Stormy Daniels’ lawyer, Michael Avenatti, said three more women have stepped forward, just as I imagine would happen. The beehive has been poked. But, it gets better.

Now, NBC is reporting that Michael Cohen says that Trump knew in advance of the infamous meeting at Trump Tower where the story has changed more than the weather in south Florida. But, it gets even better. Cohen will go on the record with Special Counsel Mueller to tell him just that.

Donald Trump Jr.

I had a gut feeling, and I admit it was nothing more than that, that the family that stays together, sinks together. It’s just common sense and I figured at some point, Trump’s children could be pitted against each other and their own father. It’s how these investigations work.

I know, it sounds crazy and makes for great novels and television, but give it thought for a second and you will see it is not that farfetched.

If there is collusion or financial crimes, money laundering, whatever crime you wish, that means certain members of the family knew or were involved since they not only work for Trump, but are intimately involved with him and the family business. This is unlike the facts of the Bernie Madoff scandal where he kept his sons at arm’s length and in the dark as to what he was doing.

Now, if Trump’s children or one of them is involved and Mueller comes knocking on the door, now what?

Going back to the Trump Tower meeting, the story of who attended has kept evolving over time, but we do know that Trump, Jr. was there, brother-in-law Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort, Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya- who has close ties to Russia’s government, Russian-American lobbyist named Rinat Akhmetshin, and Rob Goldstone.

It has also been reported a translator and another Russian were present.

At first, the story was a meeting about the Magnitsky Act which is a law where the United States will freeze assets of Russians that are involved in human rights violations, but let’s forget that since that is the narrative provided by Trump’s administration.

My personal belief is that the meeting was set up by the Russians to make Trump’s campaign look suspicious. It was a set up from the word go to get the ball rolling on the Trump-Russia collusion stories and because Trump, Jr. fell for the “dirt on Clinton” story, they realized they had been duped and it obviously made them look guilty of something even though no crimes may have been committed.

For arguments sake, let’s say this was about colluding with Russia. So what? Remember, collusion is not a crime. It may bring up a million ethical questions, but that in and of itself is not a crime. But you know what is? Lying under oath.

When impeachment proceedings were filed against then President Bill Clinton, it wasn’t because of his sexual act with Monica Lewinsky, it was the fact that he lied about it under oath- a felony.

Who lied in this scenario under oath? Maybe Donald Trump, Jr.

President Trump when asked about the Trump Tower meeting, said he didn’t know anything about it.

It is hard to believe that his son would have a meeting with Russians in the same building President Trump owns, and I believe the meeting was conducted in an office one floor below where Trump was at the time, and not know this meeting was taking place.

Trump, Jr. testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee and said 186 times he didn’t recall or something to that degree, but he was clear about President Trump not knowing about the meeting.

Before and after the meeting, Trump, Jr. did make phone calls to a blocked phone number and guess who has a blocked phone number in their residence? And yes, a subpoena to the phone company would reveal the phone number.

Furthermore, let’s not forget that President Trump said he was going to give a speech regarding “dirt” that he had on Hillary Clinton and he made that statement just two days before the meeting. That’s a lot of coincidences. But, Trump never gave that speech. You know why? Again, they had been conned by the Russians.

What is important to know is that CNN has reported Cohen does not have recorded conversations of Trump knowing about the meeting. What is even stranger is that Lanny Davis, Cohen’s attorney, has stated that he did not leak this information about the Trump Tower meeting, so who did? Is this another attempt by the Trump campaign to discredit Cohen? If so, Davis was correct in immediately responding that they had nothing to do with this information.

However, Davis has yet to confirm or deny if Trump knew and the Washington Post has written that there are at least one hundred recordings by Cohen, so maybe there are recordings and if there are, then we know the words “no collusion” are yet another lie, but more importantly, the downfall of the Trump presidency.
