Judge Ellis- Paul Manafort Trial Receiving Threats
It baffles me when someone is dumb enough to pick up the phone and threaten a judge, attorney, or anyone else. To start off with, those people are insecure and terrified little punks. Trust me, in handling family law cases for nineteen years, I dealt with enough of those threats.
It’s absurd because the anger is always mis-directed, and as adults, those people should know better.
But fact is, why should a judge who is randomly assigned to a case receive a threat? I definitely will start at the top with the President, but, more on that later.
Judge Ellis who is presiding over the Paul Manafort trial, stated he travels now with U.S. Marshals because of the threats he has been receiving. It’s for that reason, Judge Ellis had a rejected a motion filed by multiple media outlets to obtain the names of the jurors. That was the right decision. In his ruling, Judge Ellis stated “to grant it would create a risk of harm to them.”
Now, as to why I blame the President? It’s simple. Today before the media, he said it was a “very bad thing” what they were doing to Paul Manafort. What is that? Is he being tortured or waterboarded? He’s on trial for money laundering. That’s what happens when you, well… launder money.
But, the Trump cult hears that, they get riled up, pick up the phone, and start making threats. Of course, they don’t have the cojones to drive to the courthouse and walk into the building with their threats.
Yesterday, there were more attacks by the President against the media, and what happened to the Boston Globe that led an initiative with editorials nationwide against President Trump’s mantra that “the media is the enemy of the people?” They received a bomb threat.
A true leader speaks out against such threats and reminds the country that we have the best legal system in the world and that he trusts the system. But, that’s expecting too much.
Remember, we are talking about a President while being sued on his private matters with Trump University, makes the outrageous statement that Judge Gonzalez Curiel who is of Mexican heritage, could not be impartial in his case. If you don’t see the racism and prejudice in that statement, it’s probably because you are prejudice and racist yourself.
