While most candidates run to Iowa after announcing their Presidential candidacy, Julian Castro went in the opposite direction, literally and figuratively.
Castro went to Puerto Rico that allows for primaries but does not have a direct say in the final 2020 vote.
Castro’s move I would argue was brilliant, considering President Trump’s YUGE failure with the Puerto Rico, even now threatening to remove funding from the damage of Hurricane Maria and divert it to funding for his border wall.
“I want the people of Puerto Rico to know this; if I’m elected president, I will work each and every day to make sure that not only will you recover but that you will thrive, to make sure that you are respected, to make sure that you count.”
