Michael Cohen’s Interview with George Stephanopoulos
After being sentenced to three years in prison, Michael Cohen is now out and about doing media interviews in order to share his side of the story and to make clear he is not the villain, but Trump is.
Per Cohen, President Trump knew the hush money payments were illegal, but Trump had Cohen take care of it anyway to help with his presidential campaign.
“He knows the truth. I know the truth. Others know the truth. The man doesn’t tell the truth. And it is sad that I should take responsibility for his dirty deeds.”
Trump is also making his media appearances with take a guess, yeah Fox News.
“Whatever he did, he did on his own. He is a lawyer. A lawyer who represents a client is supposed to do the right thing. That’s why you pay them all the money — etc., etc.”
But Cohen responded to what has been heard before from others, and that is that nothing gets done without Trump’s approval.
“I don’t think there’s anybody that believes that. First of all, nothing at the Trump Organization was ever done unless it was run through Mr. Trump.”
“He directed me to make the payments. He directed me to become involved in these matters, including the one with McDougal.”
Cohen also makes a valid point as to the timing of the hush payments.
“You have to remember at what point in time that this matter came about — two weeks or so before the election. That would have meant it appeared on the heels of the Access Hollywood tape in which Trump talks about sexually assaulting women. So yes, he was very concerned about how this would affect the election.”
Stephanopoulos also asked why we should be believe Cohen now. Cohen responded by saying that “-the special counsel [Robert Mueller] stated emphatically that the information that I gave to them was credible and helpful”
Remember when Cohen said he would take a bullet for the President? Now, “my first loyalty belongs to my wife, my daughter, my son and this country.”
