More Lies From Trump for His El Paso Rally

Next week, President Trump will  have his campaign rally in El Paso, Texas in order to push for the border wall.

On February 15th, the temporary agreement on funding the government expires.

The Mayor of El Paso, Dee Margo had an interview with Chris Matthews from Hardball, rejecting the President’s false claims about crime in El Paso and the border wall.

During his State of the Union address, Trump lied, nothing shocking about that, that El Paso was one of the most dangerous cities in the country until a wall was built.

Mayor Margo responded along with FBI statistics to back up his claim that Trump’s statement is the complete opposite of the truth.

“We are considered the safest city with a population greater than 500,000,” Margo said.

“I talked to our police chief, through his staff, today, and found out in 2008, we were like second. In 2009, after the fence was built, we were still second. But we’ve progressed to be the number one safest city in the nation.”

Mayor Margo and Congresswoman Veronica Escobar quickly responded to the President’s claim with tweets.

“El Paso was NEVER one of the MOST dangerous cities in the US. We‘ve had a fence for 10 years and it has impacted illegal immigration and curbed criminal activity. It is NOT the sole deterrent. Law enforcement in our community continues to keep us safe #SOTU

Rep. Veronica Esocobar’s tweet:

“He lies. @POTUS is once again lying and using the #SOTU address to spread falsehoods about our beloved city of El Paso. Fact is that El Paso has been one of the safest cities in the nation long before the wall was built in 2008. #WallsDontWork.”

Mayor Margo also stated not only does the terrain make it impossible to build a wall, but the land is privately owned, an argument I have made from day one.

Trump shouldn’t be asking for money for a wall or barrier or anything he wants to call it if he doesn’t have the land first. You can’t run before you walk.

That and the fact is the majority of illegal drugs and illegal immigration comes through ports of entry. If the idea is to curb illegal immigration, then logic dictates you go to the source. It is absurd to think people crossing the border on foot is how the majority of drugs enter the country.

Which proves President Trump doesn’t even care if the wall is built or not, he just wants to be able to tell his base that he got the funding.
