Paul Manafort’s Son-in-Law Fraud Charges

The family that commits crimes together…

Paul Manafort’s former son-in-law, Jeffrey Yohai, has been charged with wire fraud and identity theft with a real estate scam in the city of Los Angeles. Yohai is a real estate developer who did deals with Manafort.

Of course, like Manafort that committed fraud and tried to avoid detection, FBI documents reveal that over the last couple of months Yohai has driven two different Rolls Royces, a Porsche Panamera, a Cadillac Escalade, and a Range Rover. The high-end vehicles are believed to be rented and different vehicles were used to avoid detection. Because those cars don’t stick out like a sore thumb. Want to be inconspicuous, rent a mini-van.

Yohai is divorced from Jessica Manafort and in September I wrote that Jessica filed a Petition for Name Change for obvious reasons.

Yohai has previously pleaded guilty for defaulting on real estate loans, but these new charges are based on continuing to run the same real estate scam. Yohai’s genius scam, again, was to obtain loans for $15 million to remodel homes he did not own and then default on the loans.

A scam he saw most likely in one of “The Sopranos” episodes where property appraisals come in high thanks to a property appraiser in his pocket, so getting a loan is easy, work a little on the house, construction costs run high, then default on the loan keeping the rest for himself. I wonder if at the suggestion of Tony Soprano, if Yohai removed all the copper pipes as well.

With the loans secured, Yohai would then contact the true owner of the properties with the promise of finding short-term renters. When the property owners wanted their money, Yohai would provide checks with insufficient funds and when the checks bounced, would provide fake wire transfer records and claim it was a mistake by the bank.

One renter is an NBA player who paid $50,000 for two months of rent, but his identity is unknown at this time. How Yohai thought this scam would actually work is beyond logic.

According to the unsealed indictment, Yohai has also met with Special Counsel Robert Mueller and it is believed that he flipped on Manafort.

In March of this year I had written about the bankruptcy filing of Paul Manafort for his company MC Brooklyn Holdings where deals were brokered by Yohai.

Paul Manafort’s Bankruptcy Fraud

With the pending investigation of Special Counsel Robert Mueller regarding Trump’s campaign and Russia’s actions in the 2016 Presidential election, it seems that Manafort did not disclose a creditor as required per bankruptcy law.
