Factors Predicting Divorce

format update on August 17, 2018

Here are some interesting facts on divorce and possible signs that indicate a divorce is possible based on a study conducted by the University of Utah.

Age of Marriage

  • Divorce is less likely if a couple is married in their twenties and thirties.
  • After age thirty-two, the odds of divorce increases each year by five percent.

Husband’s Employment Study

  • If the husband does not work full-time, the chances of divorce increase.
  • The wife’s employment status seemed to have little effect on the odds of divorcing.

Positive or Negative Thinking

Psychologist John Gottman did extensive research on factors that contribute to divorce and a breakdown on relationships. I highly recommend reading his books.
Gottman identified four factors to look for that he titled The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Those characteristics are:
  • divorce
  • contempt
  • criticism
  • defensiveness and stonewalling.

Too Much PDA?

You know that person that claims their world is perfect? I always believed if you have to say you are, then you aren’t. New studies show that couple is likely to end in divorce.

The different studies used could be found via this link.
