Latest reporting is that President Trump ordered that Jared Kushner receive top-secret security clearance. This, after then-Chief of Staff John Kelly and then-White House counsel Don McGahn objected.
Kelly and McGahn even wrote internal memos on the issue which is obviously not the norm, but as a way to protect themselves in the future. Of course, President Trump has said from the beginning that he was not involved in Kushner getting clearance.
As I wrote previously, Chairman of the Oversight Committee Elijah Cummings, had already started his investigation into the White House and security clearances.
“To date, the White House has not produced a single document or scheduled a single interview,” Cummings said in a statement. “The Committee expects full compliance with its requests as soon as possible, or it may become necessary to consider alternative means to compel compliance.”

Who is On Elijah Cummings’ Hit List
Published January 26, 2019
House Democrats have launched their full attack on President Trump’s administration and it starts with Elijah Cummings who is making his list and checking it twice.
In a letter to White House Counsel Pat Cipollone, Cummings who heads the House Committee on Oversight and Reform, named current and former Trump officials that he wants to investigate regarding the security clearance process.
“The goals of this investigation are to determine why the White House and Transition Team appear to have disregarded established procedures for safeguarding classified information, evaluate the extent to which the nation’s most highly guarded secrets were provided to officials who should not have had access to them, and develop reforms to remedy the flaws in current White House systems and practices.
“The investigation also will seek to determine why the White House is currently defying federal law by failing to provide to Congress information about its security clearance process required by the SECRET Act.”
“Last year, General John Kelly, President Trump’s Chief of Staff at the time, conceded that there are major ‘shortcomings’ with the White House’s security clearance process.”
“He warned that the White House ‘should—and in the future, must—do better,’ and he stated that ‘now is the time to take a hard look at the way the White House processes clearance requests.’
“I agree. For the past two years, I have sought information with other Committee Members about a series of extremely troubling incidents regarding the security clearances of some of President Trump’s top aides, but the White House has refused to provide the information we requested, often ignoring our requests completely.”
In a “60 Minutes” interview Cummings had said “there’s so much to investigate, we’ve got to hit the ground not running, but flying.
Those Cummings’ is seeking information on:
- Former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn,
- Former Deputy National Security Advisor K.T. McFarl,
- Current National Security Advisor John Bolton,
- Senior Adviser to the President Jared Kushner,
- Former White House Staff Secretary Robert Porter,
