President Trump Strikes Back Against His Political Foes
Last Update- August 17, 2018, 1:32 p.m.
There’s no doubt that former CIA Chief John Brennan, former FBI Director James Comey, and former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper have been vocal against President Trump. And now, the President has retaliated against them.
During the 2016 Presidential debate, President Trump told the world that if he was President, he would appoint a special prosecutor to put Hillary Clinton in jail.
Not only does the President lack the power and the authority to do so, but what separates the United States from dictatorships is the fact that imprisoning or prosecuting political foes is unheard of and that’s for one simple reason: the United States is a democracy.
Today, at a White House Press Briefing, Sarah Huckabee Sanders made the announcement that Brennan’s security clearance was revoked, and it will most likely happen to Comey and Clapper as well. But, that’s just the short list. Who else is at risk?
Michael Hayden the former Director of the National Security Agency. Sally Yates the former US Deputy Attorney General. Susan Rice, former National Security Advisor. Andrew McCabe the former Deputy Director of the FBI. Former FBI Agent Peter Strzok who was fired last week, and former FBI attorney Lisa Page. Take a wild guess what all these people have in common.
By the way, Strzok would not have clearance anyway since he was fired and that’s just another move by the President to get his base riled up with chants of “deep state,” and “witch hunt.”
Why is This a Big Deal
For one, Dan Coats, the Director of National Intelligence who was appointed by President Trump, has already spoken out and confirmed he was never consulted with.
Two, this is not usually done by Presidents, but by heads of their respective departments.
Three, former Presidents communicate with one another on a regular basis for advice, especially in dealing with past governments and situations. The same holds true for past agency directors and employees who have specific knowledge and experience.
But finally, and most important, it goes back to President Trump’s promise that he will go after political foes.
Today, President Trump takes yet another step towards Authoritarianism and this truly is another attack on our democracy that only creates further division within our country’s top law enforcement and intelligence communities.
By the way, convicted felon Michael Flynn still has his security clearance.

CNN is reporting that revoking Brennan’s clearance was planned three weeks ago, which hints that this decision was made today to slow down the effect of the Omarosa recordings.
