Racism in Florida’s Race for Governor
Racism is alive and well in my home state of Florida. Just after the primaries were decided in Florida, the Republican nominee Ron DeSantis comes out and says let’s not “monkey this up” in an interview with Fox. Not surprising to me that this happened with a member of the GOP or on Fox News.
Now, the attacks continue against potentially the first African-American Governor for Florida in Andrew Gillum.
This past week, an Idaho white supremacist group known as the Road to Power, is linked to a robocall campaign against Gillum. DeSantis did denounce the robocalls.
The audio pretends to be Gillum himself and plays a soundtrack of drums and jungle noise.
“We Negroes…done made mud huts while white folk waste a bunch of time making their home out of wood an stone.”
The robocaller even says that “Gillum” would pass a law letting African-Americans decide if they should be prosecuted for their crimes or not “If the Negro know fo’ sho he didn’t do nothin.'”
Welcome to politics in the Trump era.
