Manafort did speak to the Judge from his wheelchair and wearing a suit this time instead of his prison jumpsuit as he did before Judge Ellis.

Manafort told Judge Jackson: “I want to say to you now that I am sorry for what I’ve done,” even telling Judge Jackson at his age, he wanted to be with his wife.

“I will be 70 years old in a few weeks. My wife is 66. She needs me. I need her. I ask you to think of this and our need for each other.”

U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson replied by “saying I’m sorry I got caught is not an inspiring plea for leniency.”

Judge Jackson went on to say that “it is hard to overstate the number of lies and the amount of fraud and the extraordinary amount of money involved,” adding that “if people don’t have the facts, democracy can’t work.”

Manafort will also have approximately $11 million in assets forfeited.
