The Art of the Deal by Nancy Pelosi- SOTU

You just got to love Nancy Pelosi. Not only for her political acumen, but also for playing President Trump like a fiddle.

Because of the government shutdown, Pelosi may pull off the political move of the century: delay the State of the Union address if not cancel it all together.

I actually have a timer on my blog counting down the days to the State of the Union since I was curious what spin President Trump would attempt, but Pelosi’s spin is even better.

In a letter to President Trump, Pelosi wrote: “sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29.”

Basically, Pelosi uninvited the guest of honor. That has to have President Trump furious. Furious enough that Pelosi doesn’t even have a nickname from Trump yet.

But it gets better. Pelosi gives President Trump the option if he will have a State of the Union, to do it from the Oval House. Looks like Pelosi is running the show while at the same time reminding President Trump that he’s not the only game in town and he has met his match.

Now the question is can Pelosi do this? Absolutely. She runs the House. And if the Senate says they are moving forward and Pelosi says she’s not, then she’s not and Trump can proceed with Twitter tirade.

Speaker Pelosi defends her letter by noting historically, the State of the Union was known as the President’s Annual Message to Congress and it was a written speech read by a clerk in the House of Representatives.

The reason it was done this way is because President Thomas Jefferson believed an in-person speech looked more like a royal proclamation. He’s right! It does!

I’ve never been a fan of the spectacle that the State of the Union address is. No matter what lies and exaggerations Presidents make, their political party stands up and cheers like the home team just scored a touchdown, and that is exactly why President Trump is likely furious.
