In an interview with CBS, Vice President Mike Pence discussed the government shutdown and actually finds it admirable that President Trump “says what he means and he means what he says.”
The government shutdown lasted thirty-five days, the longest in history and nothing got done. President Trump accepted the same offer that Democrats offered from the beginning.
In the meantime, hundreds of thousands of federal employees struggled for basic necessities because they did not receive a paycheck for one month.
Is it a mistake? Not if you ask Vice President Pence.
“I never think it’s a mistake … To stand up for what you believe in. I think what the American people admire most about this president is he says what he means, and he means what he says. In a very real sense.”
Assuming you let that last statement slide, Pence failed to make the country or federal employees feel any better when he couldn’t guarantee that the government won’t shut down again on February 15th.
