Trump Couldn’t Even Get Visiting the Troops in Iraq Right
As if destroying Christmas wasn’t enough with the government shutdown, President Trump’s visit to Iraq was about – yes, you guessed correctly, about him!
I just wrote in a prior post that the military will become a replacement for campaign rallies, and President Trump treated his visit to the troops as a campaign rally.
There are plenty of photos of President Trump signing MAGA hats, you know the one’s made in China, and that appears to be a violation of the Department of Defense guidelines.
Guidelines state that “active duty personnel may not engage in partisan political activities and all military personnel should avoid the inference that their political activities imply or appear to imply DoD sponsorship, approval, or endorsement of a political candidate, campaign, or cause.”
CNN’s analyst and Retired Rear Adm. John Kirby, said that “it is in fact a campaign slogan, that is a campaign item, and it is completely inappropriate for the troops to do this.”
Kirby went on to say that “every time he’s around military audiences, he tends to politicize it, and he brings in complaints and grievances from outside the realm of military policy.”
But as always with the President, it gets better.
After taking photos and videos with SEAL Team Five, Trump posted it while on Air Force One. Per Malcolm Nance, a former US Navy intelligence officer, he told Newsweek in an interview that violates procedures.
“Operational security is the most important aspect of personnel deployments. The real names, faces, and identities, of personnel involved in special operations or activities, are usually a closely held secret in a combat zone,” Nance said.
“Revealing them casually, through an unusual media exposure even if it’s the commander-in-chief, would prove a propaganda boom if any of this personnel are detained by a hostile government or captured by a terrorist group. There would be no denying who you are and what you do.”
Of course, the President is always surrounded by staff. You don’t think anyone on his staff knew this was a mistake and a potential issue? If no one knew, then they should all be fired for incompetence, but chances are at least one staffer knew, but since the President surrounds himself with “yes” people, no one has the guts to tell him he’s wrong and thus, we are where we are.
And then you wonder why Putin makes fun of us.
